Looking for the best bedtime drinks for a good night’s sleep? We got it for you!

As busy moms, we often neglect our personal interests. When our bundles of beautiful joy are born, our social lives, our careers, and even our hygiene can take a back seat. (If you’ve ever been wearing a shirt covered in baby’s lunch for 2 days straight, you’ll know what I mean!)

With all the planning and the rushing around, it’s easy to neglect our own rest. And even if we’ve created an awesome routine to help us stay organized, chances are that we’re not getting as much sleep as we should.

This is one of the most damaging habits we adopt as parents; when we start scrimping on sleep. Because getting enough, good quality sleep on a regular basis is vital for all of us – moms, dads, kids, neighbors, friends – all of us need sleep to function properly. Staying well rested is what allows us to be happy, healthy and kind people. While sleep deprivation can lead to stress, anxiety and a heap of both physical and mental illnesses.

So it pays to pay attention to your sleep in whatever way you can – you’ll be an even better mom because of it. To learn more about healthy sleep check out some of the articles published on the Sleepadvisor.

But how to get this sleep when it seems to elude us come bedtime? Well, there are a few things you can try; one of which is enjoying a relaxing drink before bedtime. I’m not talking about alcohol here, because trust me, that does nothing for your sleep patterns. I’m talking about soothing, sleep-inducing drinks that can send you off to LaLa-land in no time.

Here are my top 3 best bedtime drinks. Enjoy!

1) Golden Milk

This is my all-time favorite because it tastes delicious, is incredibly soothing and it has a heap of other health benefits! The key ingredient, and what gives it its golden color/name, is turmeric. This wonder spice has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries and is finally gaining traction in the West. Among its many health benefits are its anti-inflammatory properties and its immune-boosting functions. Basically, it helps your body settle down at night and prevents things like heartburn, blocked sinuses or a sore stomach from keeping you awake. Yay!

To make ‘golden milk’, simply add 1 tsp of ground organic turmeric to ½ tsp each of ground ginger and cinnamon. Add a cup of warm almond milk and stir quickly until you get a lovely yellow foam. Top with a sprinkle of nutmeg and enjoy!

(PS: I use almond milk because almonds contain magnesium, which helps you to relax further. Bonus.)

2) Chamomile Calmer

This aromatic flower is well-regarded as a soothing evening drink. And with good reason: chamomile seems to work its magic on even the most stressed-out minds before bedtime! This tasty tea soothes the body, mind, and tummy while relaxing the nervous system, too.

I like to add a teaspoon of honey and a squeeze of lemon to my chamomile tea. It’s especially effective if you’ve been suffering from a cold or a sore throat, and can be enjoyed at any time of day!

3) Lavender Lullaby

Lavender does a lot more than present a pretty purple hue. It’s hailed as one of the most relaxing natural solutions out there; which is why you’ll find it in so many incense sticks, candles, essential oil blends and even night creams. Its calming aroma has sent many a troubled sleeper off to the Land of Nod… and now its soothing taste can, too.

For an instantly relaxing cup of Lavender Lullaby, you’ll need:

  • A handful of raw walnuts
  • ½ a tsp of dried edible lavender buds
  • 2 drops of vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp of honey
  • 1 cup of water
  • A pinch of salt

Blend all of the above ingredients (except the lavender) together until you get a smooth and creamy mixture. Transfer to a small saucepan and keep on a medium heat until small bubbles form. Remove from the heat. Next, place the dried lavender in a tea sachet and seal before steeping in the covered pan for 10 minutes. Remove sachet and squeeze to release all the oils.

If you want it even foamier, you can blend the lot together again and add more honey to taste. All that’s left to do is enjoy your liquid lullaby!

Well, there you have it… my top dozy drinks for a sounder snooze. Obviously, it depends on your taste but things like lavender, chamomile, almonds, walnuts, and turmeric are all incredibly soothing. So why not experiment with your own bedtime drinks? Something that’s tasty and sleep-promoting might just be worth squeezing into your busy schedule!

So, bottoms up! Try out these 3 best bedtime drinks and get a better night’s sleep – tonight and every night!
