a new thing

18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. 20 The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, 21 the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.

Isaiah 43:18-25 (NIV)

Have you ever wondered what God has been up to? Me too!

God is a creative God. He is The Creator of all things and He is in the business of creating new things daily in our lives. Today is a new creation from His hands. In Isaiah 43:18, God tells us not to dwell in the past. I know many of us have had many hurts, disappointments, sins we still struggle with the memories of, and a sense of shame and condemnation that still haunts us from time to time.

God sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross for all of those things. He knew, from the foundations of the earth, that we couldn’t carry these things on our shoulders. It is simply not our job. So God, in His infinite love for us and mercy, sent His only begotten Son to this world so he could trade our burdens with us. Yes, on the cross His beloved Son took our sins, our sorrows, our shame, our guilt, our pain and in return He gave us His righteousness. Jesus made a way in the desert of suffering and shame for rivers of living waters to wash us clean, through His precious blood we have made us free. Free from all that drag us down, free to love and worship Him, free to live life more abundantly!

Do you feel like you are going through a wilderness season in your life right now? God is always ready to provide living water to His thirsty and weary children. Nothing and no one else can refresh us more. Nothing and no one else can make us new. Only He can! And He does it because He loves us.

Today God is whispering in our ears:
“Forget the former things. Behold I am making something new!”

Dear friend, I pray you will walk in the newness of today. Is there anything from yesterday that you need to let go? Is there anything that can hold you back from seeing the wonders God is doing in your life of today? Take a moment and give it to Him. Let The Creator of all things give you fresh living waters and watch him make a way in the wilderness. Trust Him. No one loves you and cares for you more than He does. Don’t allow sin, guilt, shame, hurt continue to drag you down. Give it to Jesus and He will give you His peace in return. Thank God for the new things He is doing in your life. Behold, He is doing something new! Embrace it.
