I think some "homeschool experts" or perhaps the i I think some "homeschool experts" or perhaps the indocrination we suffered from our public school years unintentionally convinced homeschooling mothers that a better education always means doing more. More subjects. More curriculum. More activities. More planning. More structure. More busyness. But I've spent years teaching mothers that more isn't necessarily better. Children need time to think, imagine, explore, play, read, wonder, and have meaningful conversations. They need parents who are present, not perpetually exhausted from trying to provide the perfect education. And most importantly, we must remember that homeschooling is not simply an academic undertaking. It is part of our calling to raise and disciple our children in the knowledge of God. We don't need to do everything. We need to faithfully do what matters most. So here is my advice to every homeschool mom reading this post: Do less, but do it better. Busyness and fruitfulness are not the same thing! Now take a deep breath, relax. You can do this! Mama, enjoy learning and playing with your children. Every hour spent together is a blessing, not a burden! Time with your children is a gift. #homeschool #homeschooling #homeschoolmom #homeeducation
This is the sound of our home. ❤️ Ryan playing his This is the sound of our home. ❤️ Ryan playing his guitar, singing, and praising the Lord. From morning to evening, there is almost always a song coming from him. Sometimes he even sings in his sleep! 😂 Worship is so much a part of who he is, and I love getting to live alongside it. Last Sunday, our pastor’s dad asked me where Hadassah got her gift of singing. I told him, “Ryan sings night and day!” Now Ariella is also leading worship, and it brings me so much joy to watch our daughters use their voices to praise the Lord. They have grown up hearing their daddy worship through ordinary days, and now I get to hear their own songs rising to the Lord. What a beautiful blessing. “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” — Psalm 34:1, KJV “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised.” — Psalm 113:3, KJV It is so good to live in a house where worship fills the air. I knew my daughter loved Greek mythology. But I ha I knew my daughter loved Greek mythology. But I had no idea how much she knew until we unexpectedly found ourselves in Athens. 🥹 Last year, our flights from Rome to Tel Aviv were canceled, and we had to reroute through Athens and buy new tickets to Israel. Greece wasn’t part of our plan, but what a blessing God had waiting for us! Places we had read about in history books came to life, and my youngest daughter could hardly contain her excitement! She told and retold stories about the Greek gods and goddesses, connecting her reading with everything we were seeing. I kept thinking, “How do you KNOW all of this?” 😂 I hadn’t studied Greek mythology with her. She had pursued it herself through her love of the classics. The Odyssey is her favorite book! Here was the self-education Charlotte Mason spoke about, unfolding before my eyes. By the end of that unexpected trip, she had decided she wanted to study classical archaeology. This year, she’s been diving deeper into those studies. ❤️ When my friend Leah Boden spoke about the “gallery of the mind” at our Charlotte Mason Inspired Conference this year, it brought me to tears. I remembered my daughter’s sparkling eyes and all those stories she had carried within her before I realized how much was there. Charlotte Mason encouraged us to consider how much our children care, beyond how much they know. Oh, I could see how deeply she cared! After years of sowing through books, conversations, and ordinary homeschool days, what a joy to glimpse the harvest—to see what has taken root and where those living ideas might lead. God gave me that glimpse through a trip I never would have planned. Do you study Greek mythology in your homeschool? Oh, how I love my daughters! 🧡 And how happy I am Oh, how I love my daughters! 🧡 And how happy I am to finally be back home with my kids! British Columbia is absolutely breathtaking right now. The trees are changing colors, the blueberry bushes have turned this stunning deep red, and everywhere I look, there’s something beautiful to take in. Add sunshine, a pumpkin patch, and these two making me laugh, and my mama heart is full! 🍂 There’s a new season unfolding around us, and I feel it in our family too. The Lord is giving us new beginnings, and we’re rejoicing in all the changes. Ryan and I keep looking at our kids in awe. These little people we’ve spent years teaching, nurturing, praying over, and walking beside are becoming intelligent, mature, independent young adults. I love hearing their thoughts, watching them take initiative, and seeing them step into new responsibilities with confidence. After 15 years of homeschooling, discipleship, and parenting, this truly feels like a harvest season. We’re tasting the fruit of so many ordinary days spent reading together, having conversations, learning, praying, trying again, and trusting the Lord with their hearts. There is still so much ahead, and I’m thankful we get to keep walking beside them. But right now, I just want to pause and enjoy who they are becoming—and thank God for His faithfulness through every season. Home with my children, surrounded by autumn beauty, with a heart full of gratitude.
