Ana is a woman who pours herself out for others! She runs her blog "They Call Me Blessed", that you can visit anytime... for great advice, and she sells many affordable products there, for organizing etc. for mothers/homeschooling You can also join her Homeschool Sisterhood membership, which we did last year, & it has so much going on each week! You can pick & choose from co-ops and books clubs, and opportunities for mothers to get together, for bible study, etc. She also runs various conferences. I have attended the Charlotte Mason one as well as her "For Such A Time As This". They were both excellent! I have been really encouraged by being a part of Ana's community as a homeschool mom and woman growing in my walk in the Lord.read more

Afternoon Occupations 🧵 🪡 How do you end y Afternoon Occupations 🧵 🪡
How do you end your homeschool day?
“All intellectual work is done in the hours of morning school, and the afternoons are given to field nature studies, drawing, handicrafts, etc.” -Charlotte Mason, Vol 6, page 9.
Afternoons are my favorite.
Why? Well, our homeschool work is done, we just spent at least 30-45 minutes reading aloud, enjoying some art appreciation, and now while I’m sipping a cup of coffee, my teens have their hands and minds on handicrafts, not just to entertain themselves but also to learn great skills.
This week, we’re focusing on learning rope coiling.
My girls could spend hours painting, sewing, embroidering, cross stitching… but I had a hard time finding any afternoon occupations that would capture my son’s attention besides building with Lego.
My son was never interested in any other form of handicrafts until we tried Craftsman Crate last year and he loved his first box, a complete wood burning kit!
We love using Craftsman Crate by @raisingrealmen, each box comes with everything you need, uses real tools and shipping is included.
Now he has been opened to try other handicrafts and have also taken (very seriously) the hobby of building models, especially plane models.
This year, when we visited Melanie and Hal (founders of Craftsman Crate) at their FPEA’s booth, Ben decided to try their glass etching box! Boy, that was a surprise to me.
Handicrafts are so important!
“We know that the human hand is a wonderful and exquisite instrument to be used in a hundred movements exacting delicacy, direction and force; every such movement is a cause of joy as it leads to the pleasure of execution and the triumph of success. We begin to understand this and make some efforts to train the young in the deft handling of tools and the practice of handicrafts.” Vol. 6, p. 328
What do you do for afternoon occupations?

Every victory counts! Tonight I cried overwhelmed Every victory counts!
Tonight I cried overwhelmed by the goodness and faithfulness of God. I’m so proud of my kids! This year has been so good and yet so challenging. My son struggled more than ever but he has strived to overcome his disabilities and slain every giant in his way. Tonight, he received a participation award, no medals, no special awards, just a participation award and that was huge for him and for me. A participation award means the child attended classes but did not complete all the book assignments or recited all memory verses. You see, the first three weeks of Awana, my son sobbed not to go. With all his sensory issues and being in the autism spectrum, he much rather stay home in his safe zone than go anywhere else, especially anywhere with people, lots of people. He has a hard time socializing, not because he homeschools but because how his brain works. He is super quiet and shy. It was hard for him to have to speak in front of others. He can get frustrated and overwhelmed easily. Every time he cried, I cried. We had many heart to heart conversations, we looked for ways to help him overcome his anxiety and prayed together for God to help him. And God did! He persevered, Monday after Monday he was there. I watched him every week doing his Awana lessons and walking in circles around our dining room table trying to memorize his verses. He tried so hard! He gave his best! And I’m so proud of him!! So, yes, that participation award meant a lot to me and to him! It meant that he didn’t give up and he pushed through it. He faced his giants, he climbed mountains of obstacles, he finished strong and he will continue to get better.
When we got home, he asked me for a frame to put his certificate on which he is proudly displaying on his bookshelf. He is proud of himself. He knows we’re proud of him. He knows God answers prayers and he knows that pays off to persevere.
I’ve learned to celebrate every small victory in this journey and to give God all the glory for every accomplishment. He is faithful!
