Today I want to talk about spiritual health and the effect living with purpose has on it. I heard that every person has a void inside the size of God and I agree. I found this out the hardest way, after mocking God and Christians for 25 years. The day I allowed God to step into my life, everything changed! I was dying of cancer and I was only 26 years old. My life had no meaning and I had no hope.
You don’t need to be dying of any diseases to live a dead life. A life without purpose is dead. I found life the moment I believed in Him. Opening my heart to God brought the meaning and purpose I was searching for and healing and hope to my life. 17 years later, here am I writing this to you.
I know we live in a very diverse society and as a result, some of my readers here will have different beliefs than I do. Even within a group of people from the same faith, there are vast differences between values or spiritual commitment. And wherever walk of life you are coming from, I am glad you are here trying to find your purpose and your meaning in life!
I want you to know that your spiritual health matters! Living with purpose and intention brings tremendous benefits to your life.
Having a purpose is a primal human need. That’s why living with purpose is so important and why it is good for your overall spiritual health.
4 Tips To Live With Purpose And Improve Your Spiritual Health
1 – Focus On Helping Others
Helping others around us gives us great fulfillment and satisfaction. We want to make a difference in other people’s lives. Having a purpose and living with purpose allows us to do just that on a regular basis. We can and should focus on helping others intentionally instead of only thinking of ourselves. Our human nature likes to be needed and appreciated and helping others fulfills the need.
Truth is that, the more we focus on blessing others, the more blessed we become!
2 – Find Meaning In Life
Another common human desire or need is to find meaning in life. Without meaning life makes no sense and we have no clear directions and goals to pursue. We don’t like to feel like we’re just existing and wasting our time here. Living with purpose gives meaning to each day. That, in turn, makes us feel happier and more fulfilled.
I found my meaning in life reading the Bible, meditating on it and praying. The more I read it, the more I know God has a plan for my life and that gives me the fuel I need to live my life intentionally each day. To get up every morning desiring to serve others and to make a difference in their lives.
For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11
God has a purpose for your life! Your life is not in vain and sooner or later you will discover the purpose and meaning of your life, just like I discovered mine.
3 – Walk in Hope
At the end of the day, even when things seem bad, we need to have hope. Having a purpose means we have a plan and we have something to strive towards. That’s hope there. It is hope that we’ll make a difference, it is hope that things will get better, and it is hope that we can get ourselves out of the hole we find ourselves in.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. – Proverbs 13:12
One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Hebrews 11:1:
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
So faith is all about hope! Hope makes us walk with great expectations. It helps us envision a brighter future and dream new dreams.
4 – Don’t Compromise Your Values
We need values to live a happy and fulfilled life. Our values are like a compass that guides us along the way. If you are a parent, you know how important it is to impart strong values on your children. Without them, they feel lost and insecure. That can add a lot of stress and unhappiness. We’re no different as adults. Living our life with purpose by default provides us with a strong set of values to live by. Stay strong in your values and don’t compromise it.
Living with purpose is good for the mind, soul, and spirit. It allows you to live a more fulfilling and happier life and make a difference in the world.
