Hi Friends!
I am so excited to contribute to 24 Days to a Christ-Centered Christmas! This time of year is the perfect time to use certain opportunities to our advantage as parents; we have choices about what type of holiday heritage our children will remember over the course of their childhood. We hope to pass down meaningful traditions that our children will want to continue in their own homes someday.
How to Celebrate Christmas with a Birthday Party for Jesus
**This post contains affiliate links. Read my full disclosure here.**
I have not always been intentional and deliberate about my planning of the holidays, there have been years I have “wished” I did this or that, and missed the chance to plan with full intention. Over the past few years, I have tried to pay more attention to how my family celebrates the holidays. I realize that the time I have with my children in my home is fleeting. It is precious, and I am not aiming for perfection, but I am going to make sure I give it my all!
Especially when it comes to the Birth of Christ, I want my children to remember it as Jesus’ Birthday and not the day Santa comes. Don’t get me wrong; I let my children have a wish list for gifts from Santa, but we limit the gifts to 3 per child. And we don’t focus on it. We talk about Advent, the story of Christ’s birth, we might study holiday traditions from other faraway places, but ultimately Jesus is always in the center.
We celebrate Christmas with a Birthday Party for Jesus every year, that is what we do on Christmas day. Traditional Christmas Dinner followed up with a birthday celebration. We invite family or friends to take part and share the celebration with them as well. And life’s varying seasons also contribute to how we celebrate, and with little ones, in the house, we must make a few other accommodations…
