Encouraging Motherhood Devotional & Scripture Study Journal

Motherhood is likely the hardest job you will ever love. Nothing that we do, read, or see can prepare us for the journey that is ahead of us. It is important that we surround ourselves with people and resources that promote encouraging motherhood. While I know that this is much easier said than done, I do have something to help all mothers: a 30-Day of Encouraging Motherhood Devotional & Scripture Study Journal.

We don’t learn about Canada only from books. We e We don’t learn about Canada only from books.
We experience it. 🍁
We swim in its lakes, paddle beneath its mountains, walk through its forests, watch its wildlife, visit its historic places, and learn the stories of the people who have called this land home.
These past few days at the lake have reminded me again how deeply geography shapes our relationship with a country.
I don’t want my children to know Canada only as the name printed on their passports—or as a list of provinces, prime ministers, dates, and facts to memorize.
I want them to know its landscapes.
Its people.
Its stories.
Its beauty—and the difficult, complicated parts of its history too.
That is why I created my new guide:
🍁 How to Build a Rich Canadian History Homeschool Curriculum
I gathered the Canadian history resources I have spent years searching for, including:
📚 Canadian curricula and history spines
📚 Living books and family read-alouds
📚 Biographies and historical fiction
📚 Geography and nature resources
📚 Indigenous-centred stories
📚 Picture books for younger children
📚 Canadian homeschool bookshops
📚 The simple, literature-rich curriculum we’re using this year
My hope is that this guide will help you build a Canadian history study that brings your children into a living relationship with the people, places, stories, ideas, and landscapes of this country.
From sea to sea.
And there is still time to enter the 2026 Back to Homeschool Giveaway inside the post!
FOUR families will each win a $200 digital gift card to the homeschool curriculum or supply company of their choice.
You’ll also receive access to the FREE 2026 Homeschool Resource Guide, featuring more than $1,000 in resources, discounts, savings, and special offers.

I still can’t believe I get to wake up in this bea I still can’t believe I get to wake up in this beautiful bedroom, surrounded by trees, every single morning. 🌿
Back in March, I was sobbing as we packed up our home in Florida. We sold and gave away almost everything we owned and moved back to Canada.
I didn’t understand why God was asking us to leave. I trusted Him… but I was heartbroken. Honestly, this time I was upset. I was tired of moving and starting again. Tired of uprooting my children. Tired of saying goodbye to friends we wish would never leave behind.
This was our fourth international move in 18 years of marriage. We’ve moved more times than I can count, and we’ve started over from scratch at least five times. I mean really from scratch—no savings, no house to sell, no safety net. Just obedience.
All of those moves happened because we believed God was calling us somewhere, even when we couldn’t see the reason.
This time wasn’t different.
But this time, I had my own plans.
And God completely wrecked them.
(I can hear Him laughing as I write this.)
What felt like the end of my plans became the beginning of something so much better than I could have imagined. Isn’t that just like Him?
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord… “You will go out with joy and be led forth with peace… and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” — Isaiah 55:8–12
Now every morning, I look out these windows and imagine the trees clapping their hands. 🙌🏼🌲
His plans are always better than mine.
Even when they begin with tears.
Even when they require letting go.
Even when I can’t see what He’s doing.
One day, you look back and realize He wasn’t taking something good away.
He was leading you to something better. ❤️
P.S. The day before we came to see this house I prayed for a view of trees. 😉🙏🏼

There’s something so special about opening fresh b There’s something so special about opening fresh books at the beginning of a new homeschool year. 📚✨
Yesterday I picked up our new Simply Charlotte Mason A Pageant of History: The Middle Ages across the border, and we couldn’t wait to open it and begin this morning!
I have a little confession to make… After 14 years of homeschooling and many years of using and loving Simply Charlotte Mason resources, this is actually our first time using their curriculum! I’ve used many of their individual resources over the years, but never their complete curriculum. So when I saw their beautiful new A Pageant of History curriculum—and realized it included high school—I knew this was the perfect time to give it a try.
And goodness, I love the format! It is so open-and-go, easy to use, and so beautifully Charlotte Mason. The curriculum brings history to life through rich living books, meaningful narration, and ideas that spark wonderful conversations. @simplycharlottemason thank you!
This year, all three of my children are high schoolers, and I couldn’t help but smile as I watched them complete their written narrations today. After years of practicing oral narration, they have become such strong narrators. Now all three are writing narrations 2–5 times each week. It’s a beautiful reminder that these skills grow slowly and naturally through years of practice.
People often ask how we homeschool high school in just 2–3 hours a day. It’s not because we’re rushing or doing less. We focus on living books, full attention, meaningful narration, and the ideas that matter most—not endless worksheets and busywork.
And the beauty goes far beyond academics.
The atmosphere we create, the books we share, and the conversations they spark have brought our family together and helped shape who we are. They have influenced our faith, our character, our relationships, and the way we see the world.
If you’re not sure what narration is—or why it is such an important part of a Charlotte Mason education—I wrote a super practical guide to narration and evaluation on my blog. You’ll find the link in my bio.
And if you’ve been curious about the new A Pageant of History curriculum from @simplycha
“Education is an atmosphere.” — Charlotte Mason 🤍 “Education is an atmosphere.” — Charlotte Mason 🤍
This is the atmosphere I want my children to remember.
A table set with care. Tea in our favorite vintage teacups. A candle flickering. History, art, and meaningful conversation shared together.
This morning we began Tea Time Together: The Middle Ages, and our first lesson on the fall of Rome was especially meaningful because we visited Rome last year. As we read about the empire’s decline in 476 AD, we remembered walking through the Roman Forum, standing inside the Colosseum, and overlooking the ancient ruins from Palatine Hill. History felt wonderfully alive.
I love how @tea_timetogether slows us down and invites us to notice beauty, ask questions, and enjoy rich conversations together. It’s the perfect companion to our history curriculum this year, helping us experience the Middle Ages instead of simply studying them.
These are the mornings that remind me that homeschooling isn’t just about filling our children’s minds—it’s about shaping the atmosphere in which they learn.
How do you create an atmosphere of wonder in your homeschool?
